Free Quilting Tips
April 2004This is a rotary cutting tip. Remember to hold your ruler down on the fabric firmly as you prepare to cut. Be sure those fingertips are back from the edge! Place your rotary cutter blade about a half inch into the fabric, holding the cutter very upright, perpendicular to the mat surface, and touching the edge of the ruler. Many quilters hold the
blade at a slant, and you could lose up to 1/16th of an inch on each piece you cut that way! Over the surface of your blocks you could really come up short. Slide the blade back to the edge, then forward to the end of the ruler. ALWAYS cut away from you, it is not safe to cut toward your body. |
